Partners in Crime, the San Diego chapter of Sisters in Crime, welcomes you to a discussion with Paul Levine and Deborah Holt Larkin about the resilience of Levine’s thirty-five-year career of writing legal thrillers. Mr. Levine will also talk about his upcoming historical fiction thriller, Midnight Burning.
Paul Levine is best known for two series of bestselling legal thrillers: “Jake Lassiter” and “Solomon vs. Lord.” Levine’s first novel, TO SPEAK FOR THE DEAD, introduced the world to Jake Lassiter, an NFL linebacker turned hard-nosed lawyer. Lassiter has been described by Booklist as “one of the most entertaining series characters in contemporary crime fiction.”
Paul has won the John D. MacDonald Fiction Award and the PenCraft Book of the Year Award and has been nominated for the Edgar, Macavity, International Thriller, Shamus, and James Thurber prizes. His forthcoming novel, “Midnight Burning” (2025), is the first of a series of thrillers featuring real-life friends Albert Einstein and Charlie Chaplin.
Levine also wrote twenty episodes of the CBS military drama JAG and co-created the Supreme Court show “First Monday” starring James Garner and Joe Mantegna. His Solomon vs Lord novel series is currently being developed for television.
A graduate of Penn State and the University of Miami School of Law, he was a trial lawyer before becoming a full-time novelist.
